Hollywood actor Regina King’s son Ian Alexander Jr. has committed suicide. The actor confirmed the news on Friday in a statement to People magazine.

She stated, “Our family is
devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian. He is such a bright light
who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for
respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.”

Ian, who had just turned 26, was the only child of former couple
Regina King and Ian Alexander Sr.

In an old conversation with People magazine, Regina had
shared that her son was a DJ, and an “amazing young man”.

In 2007, the ‘Watchmen’ star had talked about
unconditional love. She said many people claim to know the feeling, but only
those who are parents to a child can experience the feeling of unconditional
love. She added, “When you experience it, it’s the most fulfilling [thing]
ever.”

The actor and her son had gotten matching tattoos that
read, ‘unconditional love’ in Aramaic language.

Responding to the news, Regina stated that her family is
mourning the tragic loss of her son, and described him as a “bright light”, who
made sure to keep those around him happy.

While the cause behind his death hasn’t
been revealed, many social media users took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the
actor’ son.
