The remnants of Storm Fred passed through some parts of Massachusetts on Thursday, causing flash floods and heavy rains. Several tornado warnings were also issued in the state. 

Tropical Storm Fred weakened to a depression and spawned several apparent tornadoes in Georgia and North Carolina on Tuesday. Authorities combing areas of North Carolina flooded by the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred said Thursday that two people have been found dead and about 20 were unaccounted for.

In Massachusetts, the storm led to flash flooding in Connecticut early Thursday morning. The floods were seen in the Worcester area, including along Route 20 where several cars were submerged. 

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning in the Worcester, Framingham, Marlborough areas until 11:15 AM (local time) on Thursday.

A tornado warning was issued in the Worcester, Webster and Whitinsville areas. All three were issued in response to radar-indicated rotation in severe thunderstorms. However, as of 1:45 PM (local time), all tornado warnings had expired.

Tropical Storm Henri, in form of a hurricane, is expected to hit the Northeast coast of the United States by Sunday or Monday, meteorologists said on Thursday, as per The New York Times. States like Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts are likely to face hurricane-strength winds. However, the path is uncertain.

“There’s a great deal of uncertainty on the track forecast and the intensity forecast that far out. The homework assignment for everybody up there is, one, check your supplies and, two, pay attention to the forecast updates, because they will be changing,” Dennis Feltgen, a meteorologist and spokesman for the Hurricane Center in Miami said. 

Henri is the latest of the trio of storms that recently formed in the Atlantic Ocean after Tropical Storm Grace and Tropical Depression Fred. It developed on Monday off the East Coast of the United States.
