Robert Durst, the New York real estate heir and failed fugitive died on Monday in a state prison hospital facility in Stockton, his attorney Chip Lewis said. He added it was from natural causes due to a number of health issues. Durst was 78.

Durst was dogged for decades with suspicion in the disappearance and deaths of those around him before he was convicted of killing his best friend and sentenced to life in prison.

On the Los Angeles Police Department’s official arrest warrant for Robert Durst, his net worth was reportedly listed as $100 million, according to a report by the LA Times. He was detained in 2015, therefore, it stands to reason that some of that net worth must have dwindled due to the process involving his legal defence. According to Fox Business, his net worth stands at $65 million.

Durst was arrested ahead of ‘The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst’ finale on HBO, and has been in police custody since then.

Son of late Seymour Durst, New York real estate mogul, Robert Durst was born to a family worth $8.1 billion, according to Forbes. Their net worth takes into account the “16 million-square-foot of real estate in New York and Philadelphia, including a 10% stake in One World Trade Center.”

Robert’s grandfather, Joseph Durst, immigrated from Poland in 1903 and founded the Durst Organisation in 1915.

He was brought out of his stake in the family business for $65 million in 2006. This came six years after he became a suspect in his friend’s murder case. According to the prosecution, he murdered his friend Berman to cover up his part in his wife’s disappearance.

Robert Durst was found guilty of the murder of his friend Susan Berman in 2000. This comes after he was convicted of first-degree murder on September 17. While his sentence hearing is slotted in October 2021, it is being speculated that he might receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole. In closing arguments, Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney John Lewin said, “Bob Durst is not crazy. He’s not some nut job serial killer who goes around killing for the thrill of it.”

“Don’t let this narcissistic psychopath get away with what he’s done.”
