According to The Batman actor Jeffery Wright, Robert Pattinson’s Batman is a badass. The forthcoming DC Extended Universe movie from filmmaker Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will be the first to showcase Pattinson’s rendition of the legendary superhero.

The Batman will be released on March 4, 2022, following pandemic-related delays that caused principal photography to take a year.

Initially, in the DCEU, Ben Affleck was given the role of Bruce Wayne, who was scheduled to not only appear in but also write and direct The Batman.

However, after Reeves took over as the director, things changed.

After replacing Affleck as the director, Reeves stated a desire to explore a younger version of the character, which led to Affleck leaving the project in early 2019.

Pattinson’s hiring was surprising for many given the kind of image he carried before, based on the roles following his experience on the Twilight films.

Pattinson is allegedly portraying Batman in only his second year as a vigilante, and based on the promotional material thus far, Reeves’ film appears to be pushing the character to very dark depths.

Although Catwoman (Zo Kravitz), Penguin (Colin Farrell), and Carmine Falcone appear to be the film’s major villains, Paul Dano’s serial-killer version on the Riddler also is a crucial addition (John Turturro).

Wright is the first person of color to play Batman’s buddy in the police department, while Andy Serkis, Reeves’ long time Planet of the Apes partner, plays Bruce’s devoted butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

Fans are divided, as they always are when a new Batman is cast, but not just because of Reeves replacing Affleck with Pattinson.

The release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League revived admiration for Affleck’s portrayal of the character among DCEU fans, plus the fact that the Warner Bros.’ rejected the “Snyder Cut” never really grew well on the fans and may generate an innate bias against Reeves’ edition.

However, Reeves’ past record speaks enough for him and safe to say that the enormous talent he’s been able to gather in front of the camera for The Batman, hints at a genuine possibility of outlasting any concerns.
