Russia will be opening up humanitarian corridors in multiple Ukrainian cities on Monday, following up on a special request made by French President Emmanuel Macron, Moscow said.

Russian forces will hold fire in order to ensure the safety of civilians passing through the humanitarian corridors. The news comes after two failed ceasefires.

According to reports from Reuters citing officials from Russia’s defense ministry, the humanitarian corridors will be opened at 10 AM Moscow time. Cities like Mariupol, Sumy, Kharkiv and the capital Kyiv will have humanitarian corridors.

Russian news agency RIA suggested that Belarus would be at the receiving end from the Kyiv corridor, while those using the Kharkiv path will be directed to Russia. Civilians using the Sumy and Mariupol corridors can either go to other Ukrainian cities or Russia.

The ministry also announced that those wishing to leave Kyiv may also get airlifted to Russia. The process will reportedly be monitored through drones.

The limited ceasefire announcement came a day after hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian civilians attempting to flee to safety were forced to shelter from the Russian shelling of cities in Ukraine’s center, north and south. Officials from both sides planned a third round of talks Monday.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff accused Russia of targeting humanitarian corridors, taking women and children hostage and placing weapons in residential areas of cities, according to reports from Associated Press.

“Instead of humanitarian corridors, they can only make bloody ones,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday. “Today a family was killed in Irpin. Man, woman and two children. Right on the road. As in a shooting gallery.”

“There can be no ‘green corridors’ because only the sick brain of the Russians decides when to start shooting and at whom,“ Ukraine Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko said on Telegram.
