The containers
kept in the kitchen, colourful bags that you bring fruits and vegetables in,
that now-indispensable sanitizer bottle and not to mention the one thing that
we start our day with- a toothbrush. Plastic..plastic..plastic. It’s everywhere
and that’s not a good thing.

This
omnipresent anti-environment element is dominating our life so brutally that
despite being aware of the fact that plastic doesn’t decompose naturally, the unfettered
usage of plastic in our civilized society never stops. And if this doesn’t make
it impossible for you to sleep at night, how about some facts? According to
National Geographic, Earth’s surface is covered with nearly 8.3 billion metric
tons of plastic.

But
how do we eliminate the use of plastic when it’s everywhere, literally
everywhere. Right? Not really, it is actually quite easy to find alternatives
to plastic and make our daily life healthier and eco-friendly. Here are some
ways you can do that.

Glass/Copper/Stainless
steel water bottles

The worst thing that you can do to your and this planet’s health is drinking water
in a plastic water bottle. Experts have proven that water kept in a plastic
bottle can release antimony and bisphenol A (the dreaded BPA). This BPA is bad news for your heart, hormones and even increases the risk of cancer.

Now
steel and copper bottles on the other hand, when mixed with water, give you the benefit of these metals. The visual appeal it provides is just a side benefit.

Cotton
sanitary napkins or menstrual cups

Conventional
disposable sanitary napkins are 90% plastic. Multiply it with a number of women
using sanitary napkins in your city, then country, and then the world. The figure
would be appalling and detrimental enough to cover a significant part of Earth
with non-decomposable harmful waste.

The
best way for your own menstrual health and Earth’s is to change your regular
napkins with cloth-based pads or menstrual cups. The same goes for baby diapers
too.

Reusable
cloth bags

This
easy will make you an environmentalist effortlessly. All you have to do is take
buy a cloth bag or two, you can even stitch your own using torn old clothes.
Once done, take this with you whenever you step out. Now buy vegetables, put
them in them. Some grocery for home, yes it goes there too and so does everything
you buy.

Say
no
to anyone who offers plastic bags and discourages your friends and family
from doing so. That’s it. Congratulations, you are now an environmentalist and
a responsible human being.

Bamboo
toothbrushes

This little item that makes your smile healthier and shinier by cleaning your teeth
is making mother Earth really sad. Why? Well, it takes at least 400 years to
decompose. Now the best way you can stop that from happening is by replacing your
usual plastic toothbrush with a bamboo-made toothbrush.

These are made of sustainable substances that
can decompose naturally and as for durability, they last for almost the same duration as plastic brushes do.
