A worldwide Instagram outage on Sunday has sparked a new trend – ‘Since IG’. Twitter users are sharing images and videos, which they would usually do on Instagram, on the micro-blogging platform.

A spokesperson for Meta, Dave Arnold, acknowledged the Instagram outage in a message to The Verge, saying, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

At the time this article was written, the problem appeared to have resolved. Many people had trouble refreshing the feed earlier today. The messages weren’t sending, Reels weren’t opening, and some reactions weren’t working either. Similar issues have been seen by a large number of people worldwide.

The number of users impacted by the outage was not made public by the company. The outage monitoring service Downdetector.com reported over 100,000 instances in the US, 24,000 in Canada, and more than 56,000 in the UK. At the height of the outage, more than 180,000 users reported having trouble using Instagram.

The first reports of the outage apparently started appearing around 3:30 AMand hosted 1,75,000 reports at its peak.

Facebook, WhatsApp, and Horizon Worlds, which are all part of Instagram’s parent company, Meta, seem unaffected. There are no indications of problems like the significant datacenter backbone issue that prevented the company from providing its services for hours in 2021.
