The Archbishop of Canterbury bestowed the solid-gold crown on King Charles III’s head in Westminster Abbey, thereby crowning him as ruler of the United Kingdom. Then, in front of 2,200 guests, his wife, Queen Camilla, was crowned in a televised spectacle that combined a ritual for projecting power with a healthy dose of religion.

Millions of people are watching the royal ceremony, which is being covered by all international media.

Sky News, which is also providing live commentary on the ceremony, accidentally referred to Camilla as mother of Prince Harry.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex along with William, Prince of Wales are the sons of the first wife of King Charles III, Princess Diana.

On July 29, 1981, Lady Diana Spencer was married by Britain’s then-heir to the throne, Charles, Prince of Wales (now King Charles III), in London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral as an estimated 750 million people watched on television, according to the BBC. It was termed the “wedding of the century” by onlookers.

In the years after the birth of their sons, rumors of difficulties between Charles and Diana intensified, but the public would not become fully aware of what was happening behind the scenes until much later.

In 1986, Charles resumed his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, a longtime acquaintance and former flame who was then married to Andrew Parker Bowles and is now the queen consort.

Charles and Camilla announced their engagement in February 2005, some 35 years after they initially met. There was a lot of talk regarding Camilla’s title and whether or not she would ever be referred to as the Queen. After the wedding, it was rumored that she would adopt the title of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, in order to avoid sharing the title of Princess of Wales.

Charles and Camilla exchanged vows in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on April 9. The ideal man was Prince William. While they were present for the reception and official blessing at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, the Queen and Prince Phillip did not attend the wedding.
