Kozhikode airport authorities on Monday seized smuggled Apple iPhones, cigarettes and gold from passengers who arrived from Dubai. As many as 18 iPhones, 2000 cigarettes were recovered from two passengers.

Kozhikode’s Air Intelligence Unit also seized 201 gram crude gold chain worth Rs 10.09 lakh from another passenger who landed at the airport from Dubai, ANI reported quoting Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive), Kochi, as saying.

This is second such recovery of smuggled goods at the Karipur airport in less than a week. On August 5, custom officials had seized 117 grams of gold, which was concealed inside the footwear, by passenger who arrived from Dubai.

About 40 iPhones were also recovered from another passenger of the same flight.

Kozhikode airport witnessed a deadly crash last Friday when an Air India Express flight coming from Dubai overshot the tabletop runway and nosedived 35 feet into a valley. The accident killed 18 people including both the pilots.
