Following its release in September, the Korean series “Squid Game” swept the world. Even though it’s been over a month since the fever started, it’s still going strong. Its brutal, intense storyline, which revolves around a group of impoverished, debt-ridden citizens who compete in a series of violent games in order to win a large cash prize, captivated millions of people all over the world. The series was full of drama and nail-biting scenarios, with deadly challenges that were a matter of life and death.

The challenges, much to everyone’s surprise, were actually inspired by childhood games played by young Korean children.

Park Hae Soo (Cho Sang-Woo) and HoYeon Jung (Kang Sae-byeok) of the Squid game series talk to Times of India about their favourite and most difficult game to shoot in the series.

While HoYeon Jung found ‘marbles’ to be the most difficult game to shoot due to the high number of emotions involved, Park Hae Soo reveals that ‘Tug-of-War’ was his favourite. Jung later admits that the cast was amused by their ‘ugly’ expressions. The shot, however, came out really cool in the end, according to the 27-year-old.

Physical strength certainly helped them win the task, but it was Il Nam’s strategy that helped them win. To his teammates, he explains that it wasn’t just about strength and agility, but also about balance. Nonetheless, the old man directed his team to use a systematic pattern of leaning and pulling that, while risky, helped them win the challenge..

Tug-of-War is all about working together as a team. Winning the challenge would have been nearly impossible without the combined efforts of everyone on Seong Gi Hun’s team.

They had already lost the game physically, as their opponent was a strong, well-built all-male team. Seong Gi Hun’s team on the other hand, consisted of a frail old man, women, and only a few physically fit men.

Apart from physical and mental endurance, teamwork was also instrumental in pushing them to the next level.

In fact, a tug-of-war competition can help you relieve a lot of stress. While a variety of emotions are in play, including the determination to win, enthusiasm aids in the release of stress in the form of energy, leaving everyone relaxed in the end.

Tug-of-war can improve relationships and facilitate bonding, in addition to its health benefits.

Because there are so many people involved, there must be some level of understanding and synchronisation among all of the teammates. As a result, interaction is crucial, making it an excellent team sport.
