Netflix’s Korean thriller series Squid Game could be the most popular Netflix show. Well, at least co-CEO Ted Sarandos thinks so and said Monday that it has “a very good chance”.

“There’s a show on Netflix right now that is the No. 1 in the world, like everywhere in the world. It’s called Squid Game. Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure,”  Sarandos said Monday at the Code conference in Los Angeles. He further added that there is “a very good chance it’s going to be our biggest show ever.”

“It’s only been out for nine days, and it’s a very good chance it’s going to be our biggest show ever. It’s enormously popular,” he added.

Traditionally, as per the gauging metric, Netflix ranks the popularity of its originals by analysing the number of people who watch a title for at least two minutes in the first 28 days of release.

Although Sarandos did not specify if it was as per the gauging metric, Squid Game would be overtaking Bridgerton if it’s true.

Netflix, on Monday, released the list of its top-10 original shows and movies, which are calculated after a title has been released for 28 days.

Netflix had been notoriously tight-lipped about viewership for years. The House of Cards creator once admitted that the company wouldn’t even share viewership metrics with him. However, in the past two years, Netflix has started talking more about the popularity of its shows and movies in order to help with the process of recruiting talent and stoking buzz.

“We’re trying to be more transparent with the market, with the talent, with everybody,” Sarandos said Monday.

Squid Game writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed to Variety that they do not “have well developed plans for Squid Game 2.”

However, Hwang added that “if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors”.
