Newcastle United’s
manager Steve Bruce has left the club by mutual consent. It is the first major
decision taken at the club following Newcastle’s Saudi takeover and the owners
have settled in quickly.

The Magpies have been
terrible in the Premier League this season and sit in the relegation zone, at
the 19th spot on the table. They have not registered a single win, consequently drawing five matches and losing three.

In a press release
Steve Bruce said, “I am
grateful to everyone connected with Newcastle United for the opportunity to
manage this unique football club.”

“I would like to
thank my coaching team, the players and the support staff in particular for all
their hard work. There have been highs and lows, but they have given everything
even in difficult moments and should be proud of their efforts,” he added.

Further he thanked the club for
their incredible support and said, “This is a club with incredible support, and
I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be. I wish
everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond.”

Bruce’s 1,000th career game in
management was disappointing one as Newcastle lost 3-2 to Tottenham at St James’ Park. The manager’s contract termination
resulted in him pocketing £8million in compensation.

Bruce joined the club as manager in 2019 when it was owned by Mike
Ashley and in his first two seasons in charge, he led the club to 13th
and 12th place finishes respectively. The Magpies also reached the quarter
finals in both the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Graeme Jones has been chosen as the interim coach and will be the man on
the side-line when Newcastle visit Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Jones will be supported by the coaching team of Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence,
Ben Dawson and Simon Smith as revealed by the club’s statement.

Several managers are in the
running to be the new head coach and if rumours are to be believed then former
Roma boss Paulo Fonseca and Wayne Rooney are possible options.
