Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday sent his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit, reported ANI. This came a day after his party, the ruling-All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), lost the Assembly election.

Till the latest count, the party had won 64 seats. Its alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has won three seats.

Palaniswami himself has won from the Edapaddi seat with 163,154 votes. 

MK Stalin-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has won 125 seats, leading on eight and is all set to form the government. 118 is halfway mark needed in the state to win the majority in the Assembly.

Polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly was held in a single phase on April 6. Votes were counted on Sunday.
