Thomas Markle sat down on Good Morning Britain on Monday morning for an interview where he compared himself to King Charles while pleading with his estranged daughter, Meghan Markle, and her husband, Prince Harry to see his grandchildren.
He opened up about his relationship, or lack thereof, with Meghan and Prince Harry’s kids, who are also his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet. He said that he still loved his daughter and couldn’t “recognize anything he’s done wrong” for her to deny him access to his grandkids.
In the same regard, Thomas drew a comparison between himself and King Charles, saying: “The other side of the coin is, King Charles hasn’t done anything wrong too and he’s denied the grandkids like I am. Every time I see King Charles, I realize he and I share the same grandkids, that’s not fair.”
He branded the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘cruel’ and made a plea to be reunited with grandkids Archie and Lillibet, who live in California. On his grandchildren, he said: “I’m very upset about it as well because this is a cruel thing to do to a grandparent … To deny the right to see their grandchild. Put the past behind and allow me to see my grandkids. In California I can actually sue but I don’t want to do that.”
He also revealed that he was managing his recovery following a major stroke last May.
Thomas’ comments came as Meghan and Harry returned to the US after their trip to Dusseldorf, Germany for the Invictus Games. Their visit was declared largely to be a ‘roaring success’ by royal critics.
Thomas infamously staged paparazzi pictures for money in 2018. He later leaked a letter Meghan sent him to U.K. tabloid The Mail on Sunday. The royal pair stopped having any contact with him, as a result. He has never met his grandchildren as he prepares to turn 80 next year. “I still haven’t seen my grandkids. I want to see my grandkids and I think the king should see his grandkids as well,” he told GMB on Monday.
