Pablo Mari, an Arsenal defender on loan to Monza, is in the hospital after being stabbed in a Milan grocery store. In the incident, six persons suffered injuries, and one of them is thought to have passed away.
Mari, despite being rushed to a hospital in Milan, is not one of the three who are reportedly in critical condition. After Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League, Mikel Arteta said the team had spoken to Mari’s family.

“I know Edu has been in touch with his relatives,” Arteta said of the club’s technical director. “He’s in hospital but seems to be OK. We’re having a briefing now, we’ll be in touch and hopefully he will be OK.”
“We are all shocked to hear the dreadful news about the stabbing in Italy, which has put a number of people in hospital including our on-loan centre-back Pablo Mari,” a statement from Arsenal read.
“We have been in contact with Pablo’s agent who has told us he’s in hospital and is not seriously hurt. Our thoughts are with Pablo and the other victims of this dreadful incident,” the club statement added.

Monza’s president, Adriano Galliani, tweeted from the club’s handle, “Dear Pablo, we are all here close to you and your family, we love you, keep fighting as you know how to do, you are a warrior and you will get well soon.”
Mari is on a one-season loan at Serie A’s 15th-place Monza. This season, he has participated in eight games and scored one goal. After an initial loan period, the Spaniard transferred from Flamengo to Arsenal in 2020 and has since made 22 appearances for the Premier League team.

Following the incident on Thursday night in the Milano Fiori retail centre in the Assago neighbourhood of the northern Italian city, a 46-year-old Italian male was detained. Police claimed that the suspect had mental health issues, and they have thus far ruled out terrorism.
According to the Italian news agency Ansa, the assailant allegedly snatched a knife from a display case before randomly stabbing others, including a 30-year-old male employee of the grocery chain. He apparently passed away on the way to the hospital.
