Two people died and two were injured in four separate stabbing incidents at subway stations in the New York City within a 24-hour-period on Saturday, ABC News reported. New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said that additional 500 personnel have been deployed at the stations to ensure no such incidents occur again. 

Addressing a press conference, Shea informed that at least three of the stabbings appear to be connected and police are investigating the connection of the fourth incident as well.

The first stabbing took place on Friday morning when a 67-year-old man was attacked by a man at the West 181st Street station in upper Manhattan, police said. He was admitted to a hospital and is recovering.

Shortly after, a man was killed at the Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue station in Queens.

The third victim was an unconscious 44-year-old female, who was found inside a train at the Inwood 207th Street station and was hospitalised but was later pronounced dead.

20 minutes later, a 43-year-old male was stabbed at the 181st St station. He is currently stable. 

The police said that all the victims appear to be homeless. 

City’s transit system and worker unions called the stabbing incidents “outrageous and unacceptable.”
