Spain defeated Ukraine 4-0 on Sunday as 17-year-old Spanish forward Ansu Fati became the national team’s youngest goalscorer in the UEFA Nations League tournament.

Fati curled into the net a 20-yard shot off the post scoring the third goal on the night from a Sergio Reguilon assist.

With a 4-0 win over Ukraine Spain now sits at the top of Group four in the Nations League.

Fati also became the youngest player to start a Nations League match at the age of 17.

Spanish captain Sergio Ramos scored a brace on the night, scoring the first goal in the match from a penalty, which was also won by Ansu Fati.

Spain’s second goal came from a Ramos header off a Dani Olmo cross following a corner in the 29th minute.

The fourth and final goal for Spain was scored by Ferran Torres in the 84th minute after a corner. The substitute came from the bench to replace Gerard Moreno in the 74th minute.

With a 70% possession in the game, Spain dominated the match and had 10 shots on goal.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, after the match, said, “I congratulated Ansu, he’s a very young player who gives us that freshness and desire which we need. It’s great to have a new injection of youth and we’re very happy to have players like him,” according to an ESPN report.

Ramos also added, “But it’s not just him, it’s all the players that proved themselves today, this is their moment and we hope they reach the top level.”

Talking about the final result of the match and the team’s performance, the centre-back said, “We absolutely deserved this result, we kept the ball well, we were solid in defence and were aggressive, pressing them all over the pitch and winning all the battles on the pitch.”

The 17-year-old Ansu Fati broke the record of Juan Errazquin, who had scored against Switzerland in 1925 at the age of 18.
