A repeat of last year’s final will see holders Bayern Munich take on Paris Saint Germain in a mouth-watering UEFA Champions League quarter final tie, the draw for the last eight stage, conducted in Nyon, confirmed on Friday.

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have been pitted against record holders and La Liga champions Real Madrid, while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will have to overcome Borussia Dortmund to have a crack at their maiden European crown.

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea will face surprise quarterfinalists Porto to round off the quarters.

The winners of the tie between Bayern and PSG will meet either City or Dortmund in the first of the semi finals, while the possibility of an all English semi-final remains on the cards with the winners between Chelsea and Porto set to face either Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool or Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid.

Bayern edged PSG 1-0 in a delayed, behind closed-doors final in Lisbon to win their sixth Champions League crown last year and are the favourites for the title again this year, having gone undefeated in the tournament since the beginning of last season. They have won 18 of their 19 games in this period.

The first legs of all ties will be playedApril 7, with the return legs scheduled for April 13.

Liverpool and Madrid’s tie is another replay of a recent final, with Zidane’s men completing a hattrick of Champions Leagues with a 3-1 win over the Merseysiders in 2018.

With the English champions’ domestic campaign in disarray, winning the Champions League may turn out to be their only way of staying in the competition next year.

Meanwhile, Guardiola will be eying his first European success in a decade, with his City firm favourites against Dortmund.

However, Dortmund have the tournament’s top-scorer in 20-year-old Erling Braut Haaland, who has been linked with a big-money move to City, and former City prodigy Jadon Sancho, who will return to the Etihad with a point to prove.

Chelsea have been unbeaten in their last 13 games under Thomas Tuchel, who is yet to taste defeat with the London side since replacing Frank Lampard and will expect to edge Porto, who eliminated Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus from the last 16.
