For most of the day on Monday, McDonald’s 1,200 outlets around the United Kingdom will be closed in observance of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

The firm announced in a tweet “All of our UK restaurants will be closed on Monday until 5 pm, to allow everyone at McDonald’s to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

September 19 has been designated a national holiday throughout the United Kingdom. A number of businesses, including Greggs, Harrods, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, Asda, and Primark, have stated they will be closed for the day.

Banks and financial institutions in London will be closed on Monday in observance of the final day of the country’s mourning.

The funeral, which will take place in London, is yet to be given any specifics. However, a funeral procession will bring the casket to Westminster Abbey in the morning. It will then go to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor for a committal service after the service.

After reopening Monday evening, McDonald’s posted a notice that “hours and services may vary” and urged guests to consult its app for the most recent information.

The UK government has stated that it is up to individual firms to decide whether or not to close. On public holidays, supermarkets and restaurants are normally open.

The King, the Queen Consort, and the Queen’s children and grandchildren, including Prince William and Harry and their spouses, received the Queen’s coffin at Buckingham Palace. The late Princess Margaret’s children, Lady Sarah Chatto and Earl Snowdon were also present.

In an on-camera interview with Sky News on Tuesday, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston said that the coffin had been flown from Edinburgh, Scotland, to west London’s RAF Northolt airport earlier on Tuesday and had been delivered to Buckingham Palace by car.
