Rishi
Sunak, the Indian origin British parliamentarian, is in the race for UK’s top
job. However, recent polls indicate that the chancellor of the treasury in
Boris Johnson’s government might lose out to his once colleague Liz Truss.
Results of the Conservative vote on the next UK Prime Minister are expected
Monday, and the 42-year-old from Southampton’s chances don’t look good right
now.
In case,
Sunak loses the prime ministerial berth to former Defence Secretary Liz Truss,
he has decided to not serve in her government. “One thing I have reflected on
quite a bit being in government, in the cabinet the last few years – you need
to agree with the big things,” Sunak told BBC Radio 2.

“Because it’s
tough, as I found out when you don’t and I wouldn’t want to end up in a
situation like that again.” It was Rishi Sunak’s resignation from Boris Johnson’s
government that ensured Johnson’s ouster from 10 Downing Street.

Since it
became clear that Boris had to go, Sunak and Truss have been at odds with one
another. The two prime ministerial candidates disagree several things, but most
significantly on the economy. After a section of UK dailies reported surveys
which showed many would want Sunak to be the health secretary if Liz Truss were
to win the PM seat, Sunak was asked if he would be interested.

“I am not
focussed on all of that, and I doubt Liz is. I am not thinking about jobs for
me or anyone else,” he said.
Rishi’s
plan for Britain, laid out under the campaign slogan ‘Ready for Rishi,’
included improving healthcare. He had promised to overhaul Britain’s National
Health Service (NHS) and prevent unnecessary spending in the name of healthcare
infrastructure, Sunak said in a meeting of Tories.
