According to a spokesman for the Ukrainian military, Russian forces struck a large Ukrainian oil refinery in a series of attacks Saturday morning.

The refinery, located in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk, was targeted by “high-precision long-range air and sea-based weapons,” according to Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov in a briefing on Saturday.

According to Konashenkov, Russia’s military damaged gasoline and diesel fuel storage facilities that were feeding Ukrainian soldiers in the country’s eastern and central areas.

According to Konashenkov, Russia also used high-precision air-based missiles to attack military airfields in Poltava and Dnipro, cities to the east of Kremenchuk.

The governor of the Ukrainian region of Poltava, where the refinery is located, Dmytro Lunin, said three Russian planes carried out the strike around 6 a.m. local time. According to Lunin, it is uncertain whether anyone was injured in the attack, although emergency personnel were putting out a fire on Saturday morning.

Lunin further stated that four Russian missiles struck different Poltava locations about 2 a.m.

According to the corporation, Ukrnafta, Ukraine’s largest oil company, runs an oil refinery near Kremenchuk.

The oil refinery bombing came a day after the Kremlin accused Kyiv of carrying out a helicopter attack on a civilian fuel stockpile inside Russian territory. On social media, footage of the facility enveloped in flames has surfaced.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has not confirmed nor denied the incident, and when asked about it during a Fox News interview, President Volodymyr Zelensky declined to comment.

In recent days, Russia has targeted petroleum storage sites throughout Ukraine.
