Elephants are exceptionally intelligent animals, capable of experiencing and understanding emotions, and an emotional video of elephants that reunite with their caretaker after 14 months has gone viral.

The video was shared by a Twitter user named Buitengebieden in which a herd of elephants come running to meet their caretaker,  identified as Derek Thompson, who is seen standing in water as the herd approaches him. They greet him with their trunks and he pats them.

This was shot at the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, where animals are rescued from abusive tourism and rehabilitated.

The video has done the rounds on Twitter, having garnered many comments. One user said, ”Love is the universal emotion. When we finally learn how animals really feel and think, we will drop to our knees in shame on how we treat them.” Another user said, ”God’s most beautiful majestic creatures. I have loved elephants since I was a kid, and I tear up every time I see a video.” Few others who have visited the  Elephant Nature Park shared their experiences.
