With war raging in Ukraine, a Russian businessman has a put a $1 million bounty on the Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s head in the hopes that Russian military officials arrest the 69-year-old.

“I promise to pay $1,000,000 to the officer(s) who, complying with their constitutional duty, arrest(s) Putin as a war criminal under Russian and international law,” wrote California-based crypto investor Alex Konanykhin in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

“As an ethnic Russian and a Russia citizen, I see it as my moral duty to facilitate the denazification of Russia. I will continue my assistance to Ukraine in its heroic efforts to withstand the onslaught of Putin’s Orda [horde],” the 55-year-old further wrote.

In yet another Facebook post, the 55-year-old clarified that he was not seeking Putin’s death, but justice. “Some reports suggest that I promised to pay for the assassination of Putin. It is NOT correct. While such an outcome would be cheered by millions of people around the world, I believe that Putin must be brought to justice,” Konanykhin wrote.

“If enough other people make similar statements, it may increase the chances of Putin getting arrested and brought to justice,” Konanykhin further told Business Insider.

“Putin is known to murder his opponents. He has millions of them now,” the 55-year-old further told the publication explaining why he had not visited Russia since 1992.

A former banker, Konanykhin was the founder, co-owner, and President of the Russian Exchange Bank prior to his kidnapping in 1992.

Konanykhin maintains that he was kidnapped during a business trip to Budapest in Hungary, and that his assets were seized shortly after. Russian authorities, however, had a different account, and opened an investigation into Konanykhin.

Subsequently, the 55-year-old and his wife were granted political asylum in the US, and despite the asylum status being reversed in 2004, it was reinstated in 2007.

As of five years ago, Konanykhin was worth $300 million according to Vice, and is currently part of the ‘Circle of Money’ along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and former NSync singer Lance Bass in the show ‘Unicorn Hunters’.

Konanykhin, however, is not the only Russian businessman to speak out against Putin. Earlier, several Russian oligarchs voiced their objection to the war in Ukraine, albeit in a more discreet manner than Konanykhin.
