A newly-wed couple in Punjab got a pleasant surprise on their special day when Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi stopped his car to congratulate them. The incident took place when the leader spotted the couple in Mandi Kalan village during his visit to Bathinda, said a tweet by the government of Punjab.’

In the video, which has now gone viral on the internet, the minister can be seen greeting the newly married couple. Channi also offers the bride shagun as per Punjabi traditions. It can also be seen that the family of bride and groom offers the chief minister sweet that he graciously accept and have.

The leader then hugs the groom and convey his blessings to the couple.

However, this is not the first time the newly inducted minister’s video went viral on social media. Before this, a video of Channi performing Bhangra was widely viewed on the internet.

In the video under question, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was seen breaking into traditional Punjabi dance ‘Bhangra’with students at an event in Kapurthula, a city in Punjab. Here’s the clip.

  Channi took oath as the new Chief Minister of Punjab last week, two days after his predecessor Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the top post following a power struggle with the party’s state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.  

However, soon after taking the oath, Channi landed in a controversy for using a chartered flight to fly to Delhi after he, along with his deputies Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, OP Soni and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, went to Delhi on a chartered flight on Tuesday to discuss the expansion of the new Punjab cabinet with the party’s central leadership.

On Sunday, the minister added six new ministers to his cabinet.
