Despite the dark cloud of war hovering over Ukrainians, silver linings of hope, love, and humanity continue to emerge from the ashes of collapse. 

From a pianist playing Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World’ at a railway station in Lviv to a reporter stopping mid-shoot to help Ukrainians, videos signifying benevolence have gone viral on the internet. 

A similar video of a 7-year-old Ukrainian refugee celebrating her birthday at a refugee camp in Romania has left internet users teary-eyed. 

Shared by Good News Movement on Instagram, the video features Arina, a 7-year-old girl receiving gifts from workers at a refugee camp in Romania. The girl is seen wearing a pink birthday cap. 

“Humanity… a refugee camp in Romania comes together for a Ukranian girl on her 7th birthday… let’s wish Arina a happy birthday below. Thank you to the helpers,” read the caption of the video.

Uploaded a day ago, the video has garnered over 1.6 million views and more than 2,000 comments.

One Instagram user wrote, “Let the memory of her party eclipse the sadness of her journey. Happy Birthday, Arina. May you only know peace from now on.”

Another user added, “Hearing lots of good things from Romania. They welcomed and cared for a group of African students who came from Ukraine too.”

Over 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees have fled their homeland within 10 days of the Russian invasion. According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Ukraine’s refugee crisis is the fastest exodus since the Second World War.

According to Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Ukrainians are “fleeing the terrifying reality of violence.”

“International solidarity has been heartwarming. But nothing, nothing can replace the need for the guns to be silenced; for dialogue and diplomacy to succeed. Peace is the only way to halt this tragedy,” Grandi added.
