In what seemed like an exceptionally executed set-piece routine, Suso stood over the dead ball and laid it off to Jesus Navas, who turned and twisted on the right-hand flank, before scooping the ball into the Los Blancos penalty.

The lofted cross found the head of Ivan Rakitic, who cushioned it for Sevilla midfielder Fernando. The Brazilian sorted his feet quickly and slotted the ball home to give Sevilla the lead.

Earlier, Karim Benzema had put the ball into the Sevilla net from a delicious Alvaro Odriozola cross, however, the Video Assistant Referee ruled it out for an offside.

If Sevilla win the game, they would be only one point behind Real Madrid, two points behind Barcelona, and four points behind Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, a win for hosts Real Madrid would mean they go level on points with Atletico, while Sevilla would stay five points behind Barcelona with only three games left.

Both the clubs have impressive defensive records in the league with Real Madrid and Sevilla conceding 24 and 27 goals respectively, only Atletico have conceded fewer goals with 22. The top four teams have sealed their Champions League berth for the next season as Sevilla with 70 points stand 14 points clear of fifth-placed Real Sociedad.
