United States President Joe Biden reacted to the New York City subway shooting on Tuesday, and said that “we are not letting up on it until we find the perpetrator.” Biden was in Iowa when the incident occurred in Brooklyn.

At least 10 people were left injured in the violent act, which included a smoke device and a Glock that was fired at least 33 times inside the train. The suspect still remains at large, however, the New York Police Department identified 62-year-old Frank James as a “person of interest.”

Biden said before a presser in Iowa that he will maintain close contacts with officials in New York City as the investigation goes on. 

“And something could have broken between now and the last hour — I haven’t heard the news, I haven’t spoken with anyone on my staff — but we’re not letting up on it until we find out, and we find the perpetrator”, the President said, CNN reported.

In a separate social media message, Joe Biden expressed his gratitude for the “first responders and civilians who jumped into action.”

Vice President Kamala Harris also sent out a message on social media after the incident. She wrote, “My heart is with those who were injured today in the New York City subway shooting. Doug (Emhoff) and I are grateful to the first responders who arrived on the scene to provide care and keep everyone safe.”

Pete Buttigieg, the Transportation Secretary of the United States, said that he was in touch with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and was providing all possible support.

The shooter fled in the chaos, leaving behind the gun, extended magazines, a hatchet, detonated and undetonated smoke grenades, a black garbage can, a rolling cart, gasoline and the key to a U-Haul van, according to Associated Press reports.
