Multiple victims were shot at the Columbia Machine Works factory in Smithsburg, Maryland

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that it is investigating the incident but the ‘suspect is no longer a threat to the community’.

The ATF Special Agents responded to assist rhe Washington County Sheriff’s Office. 

During a press briefing, Gov. Larry Hogan said “potentially three people” were killed in the shooting and the suspect exchanged fire with a state trooper, hitting him in the shoulder.

The state trooper shot the suspect back.

Smithsburg  is a town in Washington County, 75 miles west of Baltimore.The officers responeded to a report of a shooting at the 12900 block of Bikle Road about 2:30 PM ET.

Columbia Machine, as per its website, offers “complete equipment lines to customers in over 100 countries.” It is located in 12921 Bikle Road, Smithsburg.

The factory finds its origins in 1937, when Fred Neth, Sr. started a shop on  Main Street in Vancouver, Washington called Columbia Forge and Machine Works. It started with  At first it fixed archaic block machines. The owner than decided that Columbia could design and develop a better machine while learning the subtleties of the manually controlled block machines.
