Barbora Krejcikova defeated 

Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to clinch the women’s singles title at the French Open 2021. It is her maiden single’s Grand Slam title. She became just the second Czech women’s champion in Paris, 40 years after Hana Mandlikova triumphed.

Krejcikova is a Czech tennis player, who reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of 33 in May 2021.  She also reached a career-high world ranking in doubles of number one in 2018. She reached the final of French Open 2021 on June 11, the farthest she ever reached in Grand Slams.

Krejcikova was born on December 18, 1995 (age 25), in Brno. She began playing tennis at the age of six. She was later coached by former Czech player Jana Novotna. In the juniors circuit, she reached a ranking of number three in October 2013. The same year, won the girls’ doubles title at French Open, Wimbledon and US Open, with her partner Oleksandra Korashvilli of Ukraine. 

Before reaching the semi-finals at Roland Garros 2021, Krejcikova’s best run in a grand slam was in the French Open 2020, when she made the third round. She has been qualified for Wimbledon Championship and the US Open. Her best run in the Australian Open came in 2020 and 2021, where she reached the second round.

Krejcikova won a total of five Grand Slams in her career so far. She won her first grand slam in women’s doubles category in 2018 French Open. She won alongside her compatriot Katerina Siniakova. The pair also won the Wimbledon the same year. 

Krejcikova and Rajeev Ram of the USA together won the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021 in mixed doubles category. She also won 2020 Australian Open with Nikola Mektic in the same category.
