The House committee investigating the Capitol insurrection issued four subpoenas Tuesday to some of Donald Trump’s closest advisers. They were Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, Sidney Powell and Boris Epshteyn.

“The four individuals we’ve subpoenaed today advanced unsupported theories about election fraud, pushed efforts to overturn the election results, or were in direct contact with the former President about attempts to stop the counting of electoral votes,” Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, Democratic chairman of the panel, said in a statement.

Epshteyn, a former Trump campaign strategic adviser, who reportedly attended meetings at the Willard Hotel in the days leading up to the insurrection. The committee said Epshteyn had a call with Trump on the morning of January 6, 2021, to discuss options to delay the certification of election results in the event of Pence’s unwillingness to deny or delay the process.

A September 12, 2022, New York Times report stated that the Justice Department seized the phones of Epshteyn and Trump adviser Mike Roman as evidence relating to the January 6 insurrection investigation.

Who is Boris Epshteyn?

Epshteyn, a staunch Donald Trump supporter, is a Russian-American Republican political strategist, investment banker, and attorney.

He was the former President’s 2020 campaign’s strategic advisor.

Epshteyn also worked as a senior advisor Trump’s 2016 campaign and John McCain’s in 2008. He was made the  director of communications for the Presidential Inaugural Committee in 2017. 

The 39-year-old also served as assistant communications director for surrogate operations in the White House Office, until he resigned in March 2017.

Apart from his politicial affiliations, Epshteyn also served as the managing director of business and legal affairs at the boutique investment bank West America Securities Corporation. 

He is currently the managing director of business and legal affairs for investment banking firm TGP Securities.
