In the 2022 US midterm elections, Atlanta Democrat and former congressman Kwanza Hall endorsed two Republican candidates, including incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp for Georgia’s top seats.

In a news release on Friday morning, Hall declared his support for Republican candidates Burt Jones for lieutenant governor and incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp for re-election.

Who is Brian Kemp?

Brian Kemp is currently serving as the 83rd governor of Georgia after being elected to office in 2018. He became the most successful gubernatorial candidate in Georgia after securing the highest vote count. 

Before joining state politics, Kemp ran his own business in Georgia. He set up Kemp Development and Construction Company, which he set up with “only a pick-up truck and a shovel”, his website says. Kemp has also served on the Board of Suncrest Stone in Tifton as a Founding Director of First Madison Bank and St. Mary’s Hospital Board in Athens.

Kemp was born and brought up in Athens, Georgia. He went to Clark Central High School and later went on to pursue a degree in science from the University of Georgia.

Kemp’s political career so far

Kemp entered the political sphere of Georgia in 2002 after defeating Democratic incumbent Doug Haines in the November elections. He was elected to the Georgia state Senate and represented district 46.

He was later appointed as the Secretary of State for Georgia by then-governor Sonny Perdue in early 2010. He was replacing Karen Handel, a member of the Republican party. He then ran for the same office and won the elections.

In 2018, Brian Kemp decided to move ahead in his political career and participated in the gubernatorial elections. He won with the highest vote count ever registered in Georgia.
