The defendant Eric R. Holder Jr, who was found guilty of murdering rapper Nipsey Hussle received a sentence of 60 years to life in prison. As a consequence of what happened, two spectators were also wounded and hurt.

On Wednesday, after listening to testimony from one of Hussle’s friends and reading a message from Holder’s father, Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke handed down Holder’s punishment.

Who is Eric R. Holder Jr?

Eric R. Holder Jr is a 33-year-old man who was found guilty in 2019 of first-degree murder. He killed 33-year-old Grammy-nominated hip-hop singer Nipsey Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, in front of the clothing business he owned. Both Holder and Hussle were raised in the same rough neighborhood in South Los Angeles, where the Marathon clothing store was also situated.

Holder’s sentencing was postponed by Judge H. Clay Jacke so that Holder’s defense lawyer Aaron Jennsen could contest the first-degree murder charge against Holder and have it reduced to manslaughter or second-degree murder. However, Jacke denied the appeal in December.

Eyewitnesses and security footage were used as evidence against Holder, but Jensen, who admitted that Holder shot Hussle, argued that the shooting was the result of an argument between the two, according to the Associated Press.

In March 2019, Holder shot Hussle at least ten times after the two had a brief encounter outside a store in Hyde Park. Both Hussle and Holder were Rollin’ 60s Crips gang members, and they had grown up together. Hussle revealed to Holder that he had heard rumors that Holder was discussing the group with the police. According to the Associated Press, the rapper advised Holder that “you need to address it.”

Aaron Jansen, Holder’s attorney, testified that although his client had pulled the trigger, the incident was not planned. He contended that instead of being charged with murder, Holder should have been punished for voluntary manslaughter.
