Jaswant Singh Chail, a 20-year-old man who entered the grounds of Windsor Castle in London on Christmas Day last year with a crossbow, told police that he wanted to “kill the queen,” prosecutors said during a court hearing on Wednesday.

Chail is a former supermarket worker from Southampton in southern England. He reportedly grew up in a $600,000 semi-detached home located on a private estate. He identified himself as “Indian Sikh”.

On Christmas Day 2021, the 20-year-old got into the grounds of Queen Elizabeth II‘s Windsor Castle reportedly with an intention to take revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in which about 1,000 people were killed.

After entering the ground, Chail reportedly made a Snapchat video of himself posing with a crossbow.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family. This is revenge for those who have died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It is also revenge for those who have been killed, humiliated and discriminated on because of their race. I’m an Indian Sikh, a Sith. My name was Jaswant Singh Chail, my name is Darth Jones,” he reportedly said in the video which he sent to his friends.

He was apprehended by cops at the royal residence west of London about 24 minutes after he shared the video.

Chail has been charged under the Treason Act with intending to “injure the person of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, or to alarm her Majesty.” He has also been charged with threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon.

Chail appeared remotely for Wednesday’s hearing at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court from Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital. He was not asked to enter a plea, and was ordered detained until his next court appearance on September 14.
