A motor vehicle collision (MVC) took place in rural Airdrie, Alberta on November 15. Soon after the accident was reported, Jayme Erickson, an emergency health responder, rushed to the spot along with her colleague, Richard Reed. The paramedic spent over 20 minutes trying to save the critically injured crash victim before realising that the victim was her 17-year-old daughter.

Who is Jayme Erickson?

Jayme Erickson is a Canadian paramedic working in emergency medical services. She lives in Winfield, British Columbia, working as an emergency health service provider at Alberta Health Services. She was married to Sean Erickson. 

Her only child was Montana Erickson, who was a passenger in the out-of-control car that collided with an oncoming truck on November 15.

The 17-year-old was unrecognizable due to severe wounds. After working for nearly half an hour to take the victims out of the car, they were airlifted by STARS ambulance to the hospital.

Jayme’s shift was over and as soon she reached back home, RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) officers informed her that the patient was Montana. But doctors were not able to save her.  

“Jayme unwittingly was keeping her own girl alive,” her fellow paramedic Richard Reed said.

The patient she attended was her own flesh and blood, “My only child, My mini-me, my daughter,” she wrote while sharing grief on Facebook

“She was a fighter and she fought until the day that she died and she was beautiful,” said Jayme, who was the first person on the scene after the crash.

“Montana was able to give one last gift,” the paramedic said about her daughter as two of her donated organs have already meant life for two lucky recipients.
