Lucy Illingworth, winner of the Channel 4 music competition The Piano, wowed the audience at the Coronation Concert on Sunday at the Windsor Castle.

Who is Lucy Illingworth?

Lucy Illingworth is a 13-year-old blind and autistic pianist who was hailed a “genius” by judges who crowned her the winner of a Channel 4 music competition called The Piano. She left viewers in tears with her rendition of Debussy’s Arabesque No1 for the final of The Piano, which she performed for a packed audience at the Royal Festival Hall.

More about the coronation concert:

The Coronation Concert started at 8pm and is expected to go on for around two hours. It is being broadcast live on BBC One, with TV coverage anchored by Kirsty Young, the host of BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.

The concert is being staged on the East Lawn of Windsor Castle, the first time a concert has been held in the grounds. An estimated 20,000 members of the public are in the grounds of Windsor Castle, with the crowd also including volunteers from the King and Queen’s charity affiliations.

Some of the performers at the Coronation Concert include Take That, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, veteran rock guitarist Steve Winwood, and Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls will also perform.

The event also includes performances by Italian opera star Andrea Bocelli; Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel; singer-songwriter Freya Ridings and classical-soul composer Alexis Ffrench. It’s was rumored that US singer Bette Midler would travel to the UK to perform.
