A man named Masanori Aoki has been arrested in connection with the shooting and stabbing attack in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture that left four people dead. Aoki is the son of Masamichi Aoki, the speaker of the city assembly in Nakano.
Who is Masanori Aoki?
The 31-year-old went on a rampage and fatally shot two policemen with a hunting rifle on Thursday. He also stabbed two women to death.
Police received a call just before 4.30 pm on Thursday about a man stabbing a woman in the city. The eyewitness told the cops that he was working in a field when he spotted the suspect chasing a woman before stabbing her with a blade.
When the eyewitness asked the suspect why he had done such a thing, the suspect replied, “I killed her because I wanted to.” The eyewitness told the cops that the suspect was wearing camouflage clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and a mask at the time of the attack.

The suspect then left on foot. He then shot two police officers who were stationed nearby before walking toward his father’s home. He stabbed an elderly woman in front of the residence before barricading himself inside the home for several hours.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody. The motive behind the rampage was not known.
Meanwhile, in a press conference on Friday, National Public Safety Commission chief Koichi Tani said the suspect had obtained permission from the prefecture’s public safety commission to possess a hunting gun and an air gun.
