Prince Andrew has been sued by Jeffrey Epstein accuser for alleged sexual abuse. In a civil complaint filed in the US District Court in Manhattan, Virginia Giuffre accused him of forcing her to have sexual intercourse at the London home of Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell about two decades ago, when she was barely 18.

“I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me,” Giuffre said in a statement. “The powerful and rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions. I hope that other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but to reclaim one’s life by speaking out and demanding justice.”

Prince Andrew has denied the allegations so far.

Who is Prince Andrew?

Prince Andrew, also known as Andrew Albert Christian Edward, is the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and late Prince Philip, former Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of York is 8th in the order of succession after Harry and Meghan’s son Archie.

Prince Andrew was born on February 19, 1960. He attended the Gordonstoun boarding school in Scotland and was an exchange student at Lakefield College School in Ontario, Canada for a brief period.

He was a full-time working royal up until a few months back. Having worked in the Navy for almost two decades, Queen Elizabeth’s second son joined the family business and represented the Queen and the UK abroad. However, since he came in news for being friends with the infamous American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, he stepped back from public duties “for a foreseeable future”. “I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission,” he said in a personal statement released on November 20. Having undergone pilot training, he flew helicopter missions in the Falkland Islands War.

The Duke of York earlier got married to Sarah Ferguson on July 23, 1986, at Westminster Abbey, but eventually divorced in 1996 after having two daughters together – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
