Queen Elizabeth’s funeral procession is on its way to the St. Georges Chapel at Windsor Castle after she was given a state funeral service at the West Gate of Westminster Abbey on Monday. 

Through every step of the way,  Anne, Princess Royal has been there, either supporting her brother now-King Charles III or a part of arranging the funeral proceedings following the death of her mother. Anne was reportedly the only member of the Royal Family to have accompanied every leg of the Queen’s journey from the summer getaway of Balmoral Castle in Scotland all the way to Westminster Abbey, according to a report from CNN.

Who is Anne, Princess Royal?

Anne, Princess Royal, often referred to as Princess Anne was given the name Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise when she was born on August 15, 1950 at Clarence House in Westminster, London. Her birth was marked by a 21-gun salute in Hyde Park. She was born during the reign of her maternal grandfather King George VI. She was born to the then-Princess Elizabeth and her father Prince Philip. 

In 1974, shortly after her marriage to Mark Philips (whom she divorced in 1992), Princess Anne faced a kidnapping attempt where the person responsible shot two of her police escorts and tried to ransom her for a reward of anywhere between £2 million to £3 million, which they intended to give to the National Health Service. 

While Princess Anne has not served in the military, she has been the recipient of military titles and honours. Some of those include General in the British Army and Air Chief Marshal in the Royal Air Force.

Princess Anne’s first marriage to Mark Philips lasted from 1973 to 1992. The two had been dating since the late 1960s. The couple had two children
, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall.

Following her divorce, she met her second husband Sir Timothy Laurence and the two married in December 1992, months after her divorce from Mark Philips.
