Who is Rambha?

Ramba is an Indian actress who has starred in over 100 films across eight regional languages. While she primarily worked on Telegu and Tamil films, she also worked in Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri and English films. She was a very prominent actor throughout the 90s and 2000s.

Born as Vijayalakshmi in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh on June 5, 1976, Rambha did her schooling at the Atkinsons Senior Secondary School. She eventually gave up her education, starring in her first Telegu film Aa Okkati Adakku. However, she had previously starred in the Malayalam film Sargam before quitting school. While Sargam was being filmed, she changed her on-screen name to Amrutha, before later changing it to Ramba.

As her career grew, she picked mostly glamorous roles which were inconsequential to the plot, except for being the lead actor’s love interest.

She eventually gave up her career after her marriage to Indrakumar Pathmanathan, a Canada-based Sri Lankan Tamil businessman. She realised that after her marriage, she wasn’t being offered the same roles she used to get and took a step back from the film industry.
