Rishi Sunak became the first person of colour and a Hindu to serve as prime minister of the UK.
He is also the youngest individual to hold the position in more than 200 years at the age of 42.

Who is Rishi Sunak?
Sunak was
born in Southampton to British-Indian parents who had emigrated from East
Africa. After his education at Winchester College, he studied philosophy,
politics, and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford, and went on to receive his
MBA from Stanford University. After his graduation, he worked for Goldman Sachs
and later as a partner at the hedge fund firms The Children’s Investment Fund
Management and Theleme Partners.

Sunak is
married to Akshata, the daughter of Indian billionaire businessman N. R.
Narayana Murthy. The couple has two daughters together. When Sunak became the
Chancellor of the Exchequer, after Sajid Javid’s resignation, Sudha Murty sent
him an email saying god had given him the chance to empower people.
She added,
“This has been my advice to him since his first election win. Though I
didn’t go on his election campaign trail, Akshata (her daughter) and Rishi’s
parents did.” Narayana Murthy said that he had advised his children,
including Rishi, to work hard, be honest, and do good for society. “We wish him
well,” he said.

Akshata is
a director at her father’s investment firm Catamaran Ventures and also manages
her own fashion label. Sunak and Akshata live in the village of Kirby Sigston,
near Northallerton, North Yorkshire. The couple owns a house in Kensington,
Central London, and a flat in Santa Monica, California. Sunak has taken his
oath at the House of Commons on the Bhagavad Gita since 2017.
