The world is shaken by the news of three horrendous earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Thousands are already found dead while many are being rescued from under the rumble. In the latest reports, former Chelsea player, Christian Atsu and sporting director, Taner Savut are also found among the ‘trapped’.

Turkey was hit by three massive earthquakes of magnitude 7.8, 7.6, and 6.0 on the Richter scale. A search and rescue operation is underway as thousands are still expected to be stuck in the aftermath of the disaster. Among the victims, many known names have come up. Taner Savut is also one such name on the list.

Who is Taner Savut?

Taner Savut is the team director for Hatayspor. He is a Turkish citizen, born in Izmir on August 10, 1974. He also reportedly worked as the sporting director for Manisa FK in 2021.

Savut has also been a successful footballer himself. He used to play in the defender and right-back positions. The 48-year-old player and sporting director played in many competitions in his career. He participated in the UEFA cup and Turkey Cup along with the Super League.

The former footballer started playing for the Izmirspor club. Subsequently, he played with major football clubs in Turkey like Fenerbahce in 1999, Siirtspor in 2002, Alanyaspor in 2008, and many more. He last played for Tokatspor before retiring in 2011. Later, he became the sporting director for Manisa FK in 2021 and then for the Hatayspor team in 2022.

According to many reports, Hatayspor is not the only team affected by the earthquake. Many other footballers and sportsmen are caught in the aftermath of the disaster. The government of Turkey and Syria have requested international organizations and governments to support Turkey in these tumultuous times. The general public can also extend their support through a number of international NGOs.
