Local media have identified England’s under-18 hockey star Grace Kumar as the second university student to die in a series of brutal attacks in Nottingham on Tuesday.
Grace, 19, was one of two University of Nottingham students who were fatally stabbed by a killer in black at 4 a.m. today as they were returning home following a night out in the city.
Later, the assailant killed a third victim, a guy in his fifties, before robbing him of his van and ramming into three more people, according to the police. One man is in a critical state in a hospital.
Locals recognized hockey player Grace, who has been a standout for England’s youth hockey program and has been chosen nationally for both the under-16s and under-18s squads, according to Nottinghamshire Live.
The bereaved family of Grace declined to respond last night from their home in northeast London.
According to school newsletters, she attended Bancroft’s independent school and finished the 2018-29 season as England’s highest goal scorer in her age group.
She kept playing while she was in university, helping the Surbiton girls’ first team win in prestigious UK leagues.
One of the three persons killed in an early-morning knife and van rampage in the city was friend Barnaby Webber, who had previously attended Taunton school.
The 19-year-old university freshmen have received an outpouring of tributes, with one friend stating that Barnaby would “always be loved.”
According to his fellow students, the gifted athlete died while returning home following a night out with Grace.
The rugby and cricket players attended the £7,890-per-term school in their hometown of Somerset, where family members gathered on Tuesday to offer support.
After three persons passed away in the early hours of Monday morning, police have detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
