Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has alleged that the Canadian government holds the government of India responsible for a fatal shooting that occurred on Canadian soil.
The victim, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, was audaciously gunned down outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18.
Nijjar, known for his support of a Sikh homeland in the form of an independent Khalistani state, had been labeled a “terrorist” by the Indian government and accused of leading a militant separatist group—an accusation vehemently denied by his supporters.
Trudeau has now stated that Canada’s national security apparatus possesses information indicating that individuals acting on behalf of the Indian government may have orchestrated the killing of this Canadian citizen. Nijjar also held the position of president at Surrey’s Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara.
Who was Hardeep Singh Nijjar?
