Martti Ahtisaari, the former president of Finland and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, died on Monday, at the age of 86.
Cause of Death:
While the exact cause of death is unknown, it was reported in 2021 that he suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

Ahtisaari was born in 1937 in Viipuri, Finland. Before entering politics, he studied economics at the University of Helsinki and served as a diplomat. He was elected Finland’s president in 1994 and served one term. When Ahtisaari died, he was 86 years old.

Career:
His career extended decades, and he was known for mediating peace in Kosovo, Indonesia, and Northern Ireland. He also formed the Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) , a non-governmental organisation dedicated to conflict prevention and resolution, and was instrumental in resolving disputes around the world. In 2008, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his commitment to peace.
Ahtisaari continued to fight for peace after leaving office.
