Good Friday marks the death anniversary of Jesus Christ but then the question arises that why the day is called Good and not bad. However, in some Christian traditions, like in German, the day is called ‘Karfreitag’ that translates to ‘Sorrowful Friday.’ But in English, the origin of ‘Good’ is debated, as some people believe that term is a developed version of the older name ‘God’s Friday.’

The correct reason for this name is still not known.

Even though the day, Good Friday, marks the death of Christ, it also marks the arrival of Easter, the day that is remembered as the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

To understand the importance of Good Friday, one needs to understand the difference between law and gospel in scripture. It is believed that Jesus faced God’s wrath against sin, so that forgiveness and salvation could be poured out to the nations.

The law shows how hopeless people’s conditions are but then the gospel of Jesus’s grace brings relief and salvation to people.

For the people, who have faith in Jesus, God cannot be both “just and the justifier’ without the day when Christ suffered and shed blood at the cross, a report in Chritianity.com said.

The day, when Jesus died, which seemed to be the greatest triumph of evil was a deathblow in God’s plan to free the world from bondage, said the website.
