With episode 4 of Loki, we were introduced to the four variants of Loki in the post-credits scene, namely, Old Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, and Alligator Loki. But, why is there a reptilian variant of Loki? At the first instance, Old Loki and Kid Loki are direct iterations of their comic book counterparts, while Boastful Loki and Alligator Loki appear to be portrayed as more original.

The introduction of Sylvie as Lady Loki, a female variant of Loki from a different timeline, arguably opened the doors early on for Loki to later introduce more new versions of the character. Though Loki is yet to specifically explain why one of the Loki variants is an alligator, it is possible to read Alligator Loki’s existence as a potential mirror for the titular character %u2013 the God of Mischief.

On one hand, the addition of Alligator Loki is most likely a nod to Loki’s tendency for shape-shifting (as already seen by audiences multiple MCU projects). On the other hand, Alligator Loki could also hint towards Loki’s relationship with Thor and even indicate towards an expansion of Thor characters in the MCU. In either instance, presumably, Alligator Loki could set the stage for something bigger than expected.

Previously, we have seen that Loki had turned himself into a snake as part of a prank in Thor: Ragnarok. Having said that, there is a possibility that, in Alligator Loki’s timeline, Loki transformed into an alligator as part of a similar joke on someone.

Perhaps, Loki being stuck in alligator form is a sort of magical punishment for his pranks and Alligator Loki could prove to be the variant that will personify his trickery, and will remind him of his mistakes and urge him to further confront his mischievous nature.
