Every year, World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 to spread awareness and encourage people to protect the environment.
Back in 1972, the United Nations General Assembly decided upon the world environment day after the discussion on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Finally, in the year 1974, the very first World Environment Day was celebrated with the theme, ‘Only One Earth’.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year to make people aware of the importance of the environment. The day is marked to highlight the issues of the environment like global warming, overpopulation, deforestation, waste disposal, and many more.
On this day the government, international organisations and environmental activists come together to focus on environmental issues and ways to solve them.

Every year World Environment Day is hosted by different countries with different themes. This year Pakistan will be the global host for the day with the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.
