English singer Dua Lipa denied rumours via a story on Instagram on Sunday that she will be performing at the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup.

“There is a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the world cup in Qatar,” she wrote in the Instagram story. “I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform,” she added.

The football World Cup opening ceremony is a huge gig for artists and big names like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and Black Eyed Peas, among others, have performed at previous events.

Lately, Dua Lipa has featured in performances in big football tournaments. Most notably, she also performed at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Champions League final. Her son, One Kiss, has been a big hit with Liverpool fans and has almost become an anthem for the Merseyside club. As a result, it seemed plausible that the singer will hit the stage in the 2022 World Cup final as well, but as it turns out, all that was merely speculation.

“I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup. One Love, Dua x,” she added in the statement.

The 27-year-old singer is referring to several proofs of human rights violations that have surfaced against the Gulf Country. From the death of migrant workers from Asia to the mistreatment of women under the law, and the punishment of LGBTQI people – there are many allegations against Qatar.

TMZ says that one Twitter account going by the name World Music Awards announced that Dua Lipa will be performing at the event. They also reportedly added a bunch of other celebrities who they claimed will hit the stage in Qatar.
