Who is Jeff Bezos?

Jeffrey Preston Bezos, an American businessman, media mogul, investor, computer engineer, and commercial astronaut, was born on January 12, 1964. He is the founder, executive chairman, and previous president and CEO of Amazon. According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index and Forbes, Bezos had a net worth of about US$136 billion as of September 2022 and was the richest person in the world from 2017 to 2021.

Bezos graduated from Princeton University in 1986 after being born in Albuquerque, raised in Houston, and living in Miami. He has degrees in computer science and electrical engineering. From 1986 to the beginning of 1994, he worked on Wall Street in a range of related disciplines. In the latter part of 1994, Bezos created Amazon while driving from New York to Seattle.

Since starting as an online bookstore, the business has grown to offer a wide range of other e-commerce goods and services, including streaming audio and video, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Through its Amazon Web Services division, it is currently the largest provider of virtual assistants and cloud infrastructure services as well as the largest online sales firm, Internet company, and corporation by revenue.

Blue Origin, a facilitator of suborbital spaceflight services and an aerospace manufacturer, was established by Bezos in 2000. In 2015, the New Shepard spacecraft from Blue Origin was launched into orbit and then successfully landed on the planet.

Additionally, he paid $250 million for the significant American newspaper The Washington Post in 2013 and oversees a variety of other assets through his venture capital organisation, Bezos Expeditions. Together with Yuri Milner, the creator of Mail.ru, Bezos co-founded the biotechnology firm Altos Labs in September 2021.

As the first billionaire on the Forbes wealth index, Bezos earned the title of “richest man in modern history” in July 2018 when his net worth surpassed $150 billion. According to Forbes, he had a net worth of more than $200 billion in August 2020. During the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, his wealth increased by about $24 billion.

Bezos resigned from CEO and President of Amazon to executive chairman on July 5, 2021. Andy Jassy, the head of Amazon’s cloud computing division, took over as CEO and President of Amazon. He took off for space with his half-brother Mark on July 20, 2021. With a top height of 66.5 miles, the suborbital flight took off and lasted more than ten minutes.

Bezos worked for D. E. Shaw in 1992 when he met MacKenzie Tuttle, a novelist, in Manhattan while she was a research associate at the company; they got married a year later. They relocated across the nation to Seattle, Washington, the city where Bezos established Amazon, in 1994.

Bezos and his ex-wife MacKenzie have four children — three sons and one daughter.  Bezos and MacKenzie have not made their affiliation with any religion public. Public records, family history, and biographical information all point to both of them having been brought up in a Christian environment.

After a “long period” of separation, Bezos and MacKenzie declared their intention to get divorced on Twitter on January 9, 2019. On April 4, 2019, the divorce was declared legally binding, with Bezos receiving the remaining 25% ($35.6 billion) of the couple’s Amazon stock and MacKenzie receiving the remaining 25%. Bezos would retain total control of the couple’s voting rights.
