11 prison teachers appointed in Fatepur to teach illiterate prisoners

  • Fatehpur district jail has a total of 1,400 undertrial prisoners, out of which 250 illiterate prisoners have been shortlisted

At Fatehpur district jail, 11 prison teachers have been appointed to teach a minimum of 250 prisoners, under an initiative to make them literate, media reports say. Fatehpur’s district jail superintendent has said that out of 1,400 undertrial prisoners in the jail, 250 illiterate prisoners have been shortlisted. Mohammad Akram Khan, the jail superintendent, said that 11 educated prisoner teachers will teach the shortlisted prisoners. 

“The jail has a total of 1,400 undertrial prisoners, out of which 250 illiterate prisoners have been shortlisted. All these prisoners are illiterate, 11 educated prisoner teachers have been appointed to make them literate,” Khan told PTI-Bhasa.

The verandah of the barrack has been converted into a classroom, where blackboard will be hanged and the classes will be held from 12 noon to 2 pm every day, Khan said. 

The jail superintendent said, “In the absence of education, a person commits a crime. It will be our endeavor that a prisoner, who is released from jail after becoming literate, can be associated with the mainstream of society and can get some employment for his livelihood,” a News18 report quoted.

The Truth Mission School, an association in Fatehpur city, will be supplying the study material to the district jail in cooperation with the jail personnel.
